What do you do when a global pandemic forces you to take a break from your passion in life? Take that passion online of course!
When COVID – 19 flipped the world upside down, shut down businesses, and shunned us all to our homes, my job as a personal trainer and fitness instructor at a corporate gym was halted overnight. I was devastated. I had lost my job, but I had also lost my purpose. Fitness was my calling, my passion, my connection to God and to others. And I felt like it was ripped away.

I let myself wallow in fear and sorrow for about 24 hours. Then I had to take action. I started a Facebook fitness page and started streaming live classes 5 days a week from my bedroom. My followers started to grow. My purpose was coming alive! But if I’m honest, it wasn’t enough.
Something was still missing. I craved the one-on-one connection with my clients. I missed learning about people, hearing their stories, finding what drives them, and helping them make REAL change in their lives. Finally, I realized that I could actually be MORE effective in helping others achieve their goals with virtual training and online coaching.
I started to see the opportunities I have with online coaching that I did NOT have at the gym:
- Flexibility! I’m not tied to the gym’s hours, daycare hours, or anything else! I can dedicate more time and effort to EVERY client because I don’t have the next one waiting in the wings. No more rushed sessions!
- Resources! There are so many more opportunities for me to connect with new people, and to keep my clients connected with virtual coaching.
- Accountability to YOU! One session a week was NEVER enough accountability to keep my clients motivated and seeing results. With online coaching, I am able to check in with people daily, giving them consistency and a constant witness to their success. THIS WAS GAME CHANGING.
So what is my goal now? What is my vision for online coaching MY way?
It boils down to my new motto. Your body is a temple, and your mind is a machine. Time to make them work together! Hence the Steel Temple ideology. I know that diet and exercise can only take people so far. Which is why my coaching style will include the 2 forgotten pillars of fitness – mindset and recovery. With the right changes and the right strategy, true lifestyle change CAN happen.
All you need is a little inspiration, and a little perspective, to turn a virus into a vision.
